Waltzing Matilda

Young Voices of Melbourne was founded by Mark O’Leary OAM in 1990, and is now regarded as one of Australia’s finest choral programs for young singers. Its choirs are admired for their passionate performances, engaging repertoire and outstanding Kodály based music education program (Sight Singing School) which is now used in over 50 countries. Singers in our organization aged 6 to 30 years
rehearse weekly in one of six choirs.

As well as Young Voices of Melbourne children’s choir, we operate two training choirs for primary age singers, YVMen for school age boys with changed and changing voices and Exaudi, an ensemble for young adult singers. We also have a program for babies, toddlers and preschool children – Very Young Voices of Melbourne, taught by Elizabeth O’Leary.

Oh, the world will soon be sleeping…
Through a tangled, jungley,
      overgrown wood…
All right, you’ve done well…
And what is more…
So with hand-clasping…
Oh, how I hate the servant’s place…
This is the opportunity…
Though your frail and fragile beauty…
They told me it would tear me apart…
Ahhhh, Eeeeee, Ooooh, Ooooo…
But before we do…
So maniloquently magnum…
But then a dreadful realisation…
This was the opportunity…
So peace was restored…
They told me it would tear me apart…
Though your frail and fragile beauty…
So week in and week out…
Let’s leave our decision
And now it’s here, the fateful evening…
We are sorry to inform you…
Quick, quick! To your feet…
Though you’re frail/They told me it would…
Despite our valiant efforts…
They had drained the last dregs…
Rhubarb, rhubarb…
And yet there was one peerless act…
Finale: We somehow always knew we’d win it…
Encore: They told me it would tear me apart…
